Wood Frame w/ fiberglass batt insulation
Pros:
Inexpensive
Some Johns-Manville fiberglass can have very low formaldehyde emissions
Cons:
Fiberglass batts are not an air barrier (air barrier is as important to you home's thremal performance as insulation is!)
The R-value of insulation materials is dependent on ambient temperature and wind conditions. Independent tests show that at 18 degrees F, with a 15 mph wind, the theoretical R-value of batt insulation drops from 19 to 7.
Correct installation for maximum theoretical thermal performance is impossible to achieve in real-world field conditions (i.e. actual installed thermal performance does not match lab conditions so R-19 walls can be even LOWER than R-7)
Convective air currents within the wall cavity diminish thermal performance
Little sound control benefit
